India’s top budget airline, IndiGo (6E), has bolstered its network from Kempegowda International Airport (BLR), its second-largest hub after Delhi. This strategic growth cements Bengaluru as a vital center for connectivity.
On December 31, 2024, IndiGo launched two key routes: a direct flight to Ayodhya (AYJ) and a reinstated service to Gorakhpur (GOP), marking a five-year hiatus. With these additions, IndiGo now connects Bengaluru to 80 destinations—67 domestic and 13 international.
The airline plans to add a second daily flight to Surat (STV) and enhance Goa (GOX) connectivity with a third daily service starting January 2025. Increased flights to Varanasi (VNS) and Patna (PAT) are also scheduled for February.
IndiGo’s international footprint from Bengaluru has surged, with new routes to Mauritius (MRU), Langkawi (LGK), and Bali (DPS). This growth elevated BLR from the sixth to third position among IndiGo’s international hubs, trailing only Delhi and Mumbai.
Bengaluru Airport has witnessed a record-breaking year, surpassing 40 million passengers in 2024. With projections of 42 million travelers in FY25, BLR is firmly establishing itself among the busiest Indian airports.
IndiGo’s future plans include exploring routes like Nairobi (NBO), Surat Thani (URT), and Seychelles (SEZ), ensuring Bengaluru remains a key player in global aviation.
