Indiranagar’s 100-Ft Road in the Dark for 3 Years, BBMP Yet to Act
Bengaluru’s Indiranagar 100-Ft Road—a vibrant commercial hub—has remained without streetlights for nearly three years, posing a major safety risk for residents and visitors. The BBMP’s oversight in budgeting for streetlights during the road’s concretization work has left this crucial stretch in darkness.
Extending from Old Madras Road to Old Airport Road, the street is lined with shops, pubs, and restaurants, remaining busy until midnight. However, the lack of proper lighting has led to rising crime rates, including thefts and stabbings. Women, senior citizens, and motorists struggle with poor visibility, increasing the risk of accidents and security concerns.
Despite multiple complaints from the Indiranagar Owners, Traders & Residence Welfare Association, BBMP has repeatedly delayed action, citing tendering issues. Association General Secretary SG Adithya criticized the civic body, stating that authorities keep postponing work without any real progress.
Local resident Reddy expressed his frustration, saying, “It’s been years without streetlights. I don’t know how much longer they need.”
A BBMP official claimed the delay was due to a lack of response from the original contractor, and the new tender is awaiting government approval. However, no clear timeline has been provided for the installation of streetlights.
