The Rotary Club of Bangalore (RCB) is set to launch the second edition of its RCB International Film Festival on April 12 and 13, at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan auditorium. This year, the festival will shine a spotlight on the often-overlooked careers behind the camera, particularly those of women, as it aims to inspire and support marginalized communities in pursuing a career in filmmaking.
With a mission to raise awareness and funds, the event will use the proceeds to offer career development opportunities for women in the film industry. The initiative focuses on training women and young girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, equipping them with the skills needed in various filmmaking roles outside of acting.
Special training programs will be conducted for students from schools like Parikrama, Vimarsha, and Sanrakshan, covering key fields such as voice-over, dubbing, and documentary filmmaking. These sessions will be led by industry veterans like national awardee Champa P Shetty and award-winning director Richa Khandelwal Bhat, giving these aspiring filmmakers a chance to learn from the best.
Nalini Nanjundayya, the President of RCB, emphasized the importance of industry exposure: “We bring directors to speak at the events as it makes a significant difference. They discuss career opportunities and the skills required, providing the students with valuable insights into the film industry.”
The RCB International Film Festival is not just a celebration of cinema; it’s a stepping stone for young women to embrace independence and make their mark in a traditionally male-dominated field.
