A disturbing altercation unfolded during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) IPL match at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium, when the wife of a senior IPS officer lodged a sexual harassment complaint against an Income Tax commissioner.
The incident, which took place in the exclusive Diamond Box seating area, reportedly began when the woman briefly stepped away to use the restroom. Upon return, she found her seat taken by the accused. A confrontation ensued, leading to claims of unwelcome physical gestures and verbal insults.
The Cubbon Park Police acted swiftly, filing a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS):
- Section 75(1): Sexual harassment involving physical contact with inappropriate gestures
- Section 79: Insulting a woman’s dignity
- Section 351(1): Criminal intimidation
- Section 352: Intentional insult intended to provoke
According to authorities, the victim’s daughter and son were also present during the incident, which escalated quickly. Sources reveal that the woman was deeply shaken and chose to pursue legal action after what she described as a blatant violation of her personal space and modesty in a public venue.
The case has sparked debate over VIP entitlement, public conduct, and the need for stronger protections for women, even in elite spaces like corporate hospitality boxes.
