Bengaluru: The prohibition on sale of liquor in the state will continue till May 3, stated a fresh order from State’s Excise Department, thereby pulling down curtains on speculations with regard to re-opening of the liquor shops in the state.
So far, there had been speculations that the state will open the Mysore Sales International Limited (MSIL) outlets and allow the sale of liquor through these outlets. The latest notice has put an end to these speculations too.
“The sale of alcohol and operation of distilleries other than distilleries involved in making alcohol-based sanitisers will remain closed in Karnataka until May 3,” a notice issued by the state excise department read.
The notice warned that licences will be suspended if shop owners disobey the order passed by the department.
Though the previous order had restricted the sale of alcohol in the state until April 20, it has now been extended till May 3.
Alcohol shops in Karnataka have been closed since March 22.
