Bengaluru: Former Minister and Dalit strongman Srinivas Prasad on Saturday ended all the speculations by making it clear that he was joining the BJP. Prasad announced his decision soon after meeting BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa at the latter’s residence. He will formally join the party at a rally in Mysuru to be held during first week of January.
Prasad will be the BJP candidate in Nanjangud constituency, which is running into a by-polls after Prasad’s resignation from the assembly membership.
Prasad, revenue minister in Siddaramaiah cabinet had resigned from primary membership of Congress party and also from the assembly after he was unceremoniously dropped from Siddaramaiah ministry earlier this year.
Once a close associated of CM Siddaramaiah, Prasad’s exit from Assembly and from the party strained the relationship between the two. Now, the Nanjangud by-election is seen as a fight between Prasad and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Meanwhile, the Congress is yet to announce its candidate for the assembly election in CM’s home district.
