Bengaluru: The city consumer court has ordered an In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Facility in Indiranagar to refund Rs 4.8 lakhs to a man who had paid the same amount to have a child through surrogacy.
Previously, the man, a 40-year-old native of Mysuru and a divorcee had seen an ad in a paper in 2016 by Dr Rama’s Fertility IVF Centre that stated that they provided surrogacy services for those who were looking to have a child. Reports stated that the man contacted the centre was contacted by the centre who stated the price to be Rs 7 lakhs and with an additional 1.5 lakhs he would be able to have twins.
On his first visit to the centre the man was made to pay Rs 2.25 lakhs and with subsequent visits he ended up paying a total of Rs 4.8 lakh only later was he told that we could not have any children. Suspecting foul play, he approached the city’s consumer court.
In his statement to the court the man said that he was introduced to the surrogate mother after eight months after he was coerced to pay Rs 2.5 lakhs more and whe had asked to meet the mother they told him that she had met with an accident and was absconding with the money.
After all this the court ordered the centre to refund him his 4.8 lakhs and also to pay him Rs 3 lakhs as compensation .
