Bengaluru: Naveen, a 28-year-old man reportedly stalked and killed his 16-year-old relative Keerthana, on Wednesday morning.
Naveen followed her to school and hacked her to death in broad daylight.
According to reports from the Doddaballapura Town Police, three or four years ago, Keerthana’s sister was married to Naveen’s brother and ever since then, Naveen had been pestering Keerthana’s family to marry her off to him when she turns 18 years of age.
The police added that Keerthana was strongly opposed to the suggestion and had rejected him multiple times as she dreamt of pursuing higher education. Her parents had tried to pacify Naveen saying that she was a minor and that they would marry her to him when she turned 18.
On Wednesday, November 28, Naveen confronted her and voiced his suspicion of her being in a relation with another man. Police reported that an arguement ensued between the two and that witness heard her stating that she would rather die than be with him.
Naveen then took out a sickle which he had brought with him, hacked her in the neck and ran away. She was noticed by the passers-by lying in a pool of blood who then called for an ambulance.
The police and ambulance arrived and rushed her to the hospital and meanwhile, Naveen consumed poison at his home but is being treated at a hospital, Keerthana was declared dead on arrival.
A case of stalking and murder has been registered against Naveen in the Doddaballapura Town Police Station.
