Jnanpith Award winning writer Girish Karnad no more

Bengaluru: Jnanpith Award winner, play writer, actor Girish Karnad is no more. The 81-years-old died at his residence in the city.

As per the writer’s last wish, there will be no official ceremony, no state honours and no public viewing.

His last rites will be held at the Kalpalli crematorium. Those who wish to see him for the last time, including prominent personalities, can attend the ceremony at the crematorium.

He was conferred with the Jnanpith Award in the year 1999. He acted in several Kannada, Hindi and other regional language films and is known for his plays including “Hayavadana”, “Tughalak” and “Nagamandala”.
