Bengaluru: Minister for Home Dr G Parameshwara said on Tuesday that Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team would leave for Maharashtra to interrogate Dr Virendra Tawade in Prof. Kalburgi murder case. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had nabbed Dr Virendra Tawade, a member of Sanathan Sansta, recently for his alleged role in the murder of noted Pune-based rationalist Dr Narendra Dabolkar in 2013.
Speaking with media persons after holding a meeting with around 30 writers and intellectuals at Viksasa Soudha, Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara said the CID team would leave for Maharashtra to find out whether Dr Virendra Tawade is involved in Prof Kalburgi murder case. “Our police have also shared the information pertaining to Prof Kalburgi’s murder with the CBI. The CBI has sent the bullets, used to kill Prof Kalburgi, to Scotland for verification, since there are some similarities between the bullets used to kill Prof Kalburgi and Dr Narendra Dabolkar,’’ Dr Parameshwara said.
Describing the murder of Prof Kalburgi as a well-calculated and well-planned murder, the home minister said, the state government has taken it seriously and is determined to nab the culprits. “Around 30 police officers, one IGP, one ADGP and 30 technical staffs have been working to nab the culprits in this case. The CID police team has completed the verification of 27,000 students who attended examination on that day when Prof Kalburgi was shot dead. The police have also started verification of phone calls made on that day,’’ the home minister said.
He further said that the writers and the rationalists have demanded the government, especially home department, to take all measures to nab the culprits as early as possible. Prof. Chandrasekhara Patil, Dr K. Marulasiddanegowda, Dr. Siddanagowda Patil, Dr Girireddy Govindaraju, Dr. Vasundara Bhupathi, Vijaya Kalburgi, Prof. Baraguru Ramachandrappa, Prof S G Siddaramaiah, Dr Siddalinga Pattanashetti, Dr Ganesh Devi, Dr Manu Baligara, Prof. K Neela, Aravind Jatti, Nagesha Aralaguppe, Dr G Ramakrishna and Vishwanatha Swamy were some of the important writers and intellectuals who attended the meeting.
