Bengaluru: Criminal Investigation Department (CID) sleuths arrested one more person in connection with the suicide of Chikkamagaluru DySP Kallappa Handibag on Friday, July 29.
Police sources said that after receiving credible information, Vijay Kumar (22), a painter from Dodda Bommasandra in Vidyaranyapura in Bengaluru was arrested. It is believed that Vijay was closely associated with Praveen Khandya, the prime suspect, in the abduction of Tejas Gowda.
Vijay is currently under interrogation. CID sleuths are trying to obtain information about Khandya’s whereabouts. A senior police officer said that, Vijay will be produced before a court in Chikkamagaluru on Saturday.
With Vijay Kumar, the number of arrests has gone up to eight. Prime suspects Khandya and other suspects Naveen Shetty and Ashwin Shetty are still absconding.
On July 4, an FIR was lodged against Abhijit alias Abhiram, Naveen Shetty, Nataraj, Praveen Khandya and deputy superintendent of police Kalappa Handibag at the Basavanahalli police station in connection with the kidnapping of financier Tejas Gowda. The following day, the police officer committed suicide at his hometown in Belagavi district. The state government handed over the inquiry to CID.
