Kannada activists burn Goa minister’s ghost effigy, demand his ouster

Bengaluru: Pro-Kannada organisations led by Kannada Chaluvali leader Vatal Nagaraj burnt the ghost effigy of Goa water resources minister and demanded his removal from the state cabinet during the protests here on January 16.

After terming Kannadigas as “harami” or illegitimate, Goa’s Water Resources Minister Vinod Palienkar today accused the Karnataka government of being “habitual liars” vis-a-vis the Mayadayadi water dispute.

Enraged by his outburst, pro-Kannada organisations took to streets at the Mysuru Bank Circle in the city and demanded his immediate removal from the Goa cabinet alleging, he has “no control over his tongue.”

Dr. Rajkumar Fans Association State President S R Govindu, Kannada Sene President K R Kumar, Shivaramegowda and Praveen Kumar Shetty representing Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Manjunath Dev, President of Kannada Jagruthi Vedike and Kannada activist Girish Gowda among hundreds of others were present during protests held at noon.
