The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall and hailstorms in over 25 districts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru, over the next few days. A yellow alert has been issued for various regions as thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds ranging from 40-50 km/h are anticipated.
Districts Under Yellow Alert
The following districts are under the yellow alert:
Vijayanagar, Tumkur, Shivamogga, Ramanagara, Mysuru, Mandya, Kolar, Kodagu, Hassan, Davangere, Chitradurga, Chikkamagaluru, Chikkaballapur, Chamarajanagar, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore Urban, Vijayapura, Haveri, Gadag, Dharwad, Belagavi, Bagalkot, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi.
Weather Forecast
According to the IMD’s latest forecast, from April 1 to 3, cloudy skies are expected across the state, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds of 40-50 km/h. Scattered moderate rain will likely affect North Interior Karnataka, while the coastal and South Interior regions, including Bengaluru, are set to experience widespread moderate rainfall, with some areas witnessing heavy showers.
On April 2 and 3, hailstorms are predicted for Coastal and North Interior Karnataka, with isolated instances also expected in South Interior Karnataka. April 4 will bring widespread rainfall across the state.
Dry Weather in Some Districts
While heavy rain is forecasted for most areas, districts like Bidar, Koppal, Raichur, and Yadgir will remain dry, experiencing only moderate rainfall. Dharwad and Koppal have already recorded rain.
Cyclone Formation
The shift in weather patterns is linked to a depression over the Odisha coast, which may develop into a cyclone. This will likely lead to moderate rainfall in Dakshina Kannada, Belagavi, and Chikkamagaluru on April 1, with thunderstorms expected on April 3. Widespread rain is predicted for April 4.
Residents are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions, especially in the yellow alert zones.
