The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Karnataka, including Bengaluru, warning of thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds from May 12 to May 15.

Widespread Alert Across the State

The alert spans coastal, northern, and southern interior Karnataka, where wind speeds may reach 30–40 km/h, with some areas seeing gusts up to 50 km/h. The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) also anticipates widespread rain and isolated thunderstorms.

What to Expect in Bengaluru

Bengaluru is forecasted to have partly cloudy skies, with light to moderate showers or thunderstorms expected each day. Weather changes are likely in the afternoons and evenings, with strong winds predicted. Sudden gusts can dislodge unsecured objects like flowerpots, hoardings, and banners.

Safety Precautions

Residents are advised to:

  • Stay indoors during thunderstorms and lightning.

  • Avoid travel unless necessary, especially during intense weather.

  • Secure loose items around homes and balconies.

  • Keep a lookout for official alerts and updates from IMD and local authorities.

  • Southern States Also Affected

Similar weather warnings are in effect for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and other southern regions, all of which are likely to see moderate rain and thunderstorms during this period.
