The Karnataka Cabinet has approved construction of 11 elevated corridors across Bengaluru in a major mobility push worth ₹13,262 crore.
The large-scale project, covering 75.6 kilometres, is aimed at providing long-term relief from the city’s chronic traffic congestion and improving travel efficiency across busy corridors.
Big transport push for Bengaluru
Law Minister H K Patil said the elevated roads form part of a broader strategy to modernise Bengaluru’s transport infrastructure.
The plan was first announced in 2024 by Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar. Later, the project was taken over by BSMILE, the special purpose vehicle created for urban mobility projects.
Key corridors approved
Among the approved stretches are:
- MEI Junction split flyover on Tumkur Road
- Pipeline Road grade separators in Mahalakshmi Layout
- Doddaballapura Road to NH-7 via Old Yelahanka
- Elevated corridors at Konankunte Circle and Raghuvanahalli Cross
- Minerva Circle to Hudson Circle route
- Sangolli Rayanna Circle to KR Circle
- Sirsi Circle to Nayandahalli on Mysuru Road
- Shoolay Circle to St John’s Hospital on Hosur Road
PPP and BOT models
Nine corridors will be developed under the Public-Private Partnership model, while two will be built under the Build-Operate-Transfer model. Tenders will be floated in three packages.
Intermediate Ring Road also cleared
The Cabinet also approved the long-pending Intermediate Ring Road, which will now be executed by BMRDA with modifications.
Other civic approvals
Additional approvals include ₹436.44 crore for the IOC Junction elevated rotary flyover and Baiyyappanahalli rail overbridge works, along with an ₹85 crore biogas purification project using wastewater sludge.
Hope for traffic relief
With Bengaluru’s congestion worsening each year, the mega corridor plan is being seen as one of the city’s biggest road infrastructure moves in recent times.
