Karnataka cop absconds after wife accuses him of dowry torture and murder bid
A police sub-inspector from Karnataka, Kishore P., has gone into hiding after his spouse, Varsha R., lodged a complaint against him for persistent dowry harassment and an attempt on her life. Authorities at Chandra Layout police station in Bengaluru have booked Kishore, stationed in Mudigere, along with his parents under multiple charges, including violations of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
Varsha, who entered into an arranged marriage with Kishore in November 2023, claimed that despite her family providing a hefty dowry and covering all wedding expenses, her in-laws’ greed only grew. They allegedly demanded additional wealth, including a luxury car and ₹10 lakh, which Kishore purportedly intended to use as a bribe to secure a transfer.
When Varsha refused to comply, she was allegedly subjected to brutal physical abuse. Unable to endure the relentless mistreatment, she attempted to take her own life. However, Kishore intervened—only to reportedly attack her again. One such violent episode left her unconscious, requiring urgent hospitalization.
The abuse came to light when Varsha confided in counselors and family members, leading to an official investigation. Meanwhile, Kishore remains untraceable, evading law enforcement.
The case underscores the continued menace of dowry demands and domestic violence, even within law enforcement circles. Authorities are intensifying their efforts to apprehend the accused and ensure justice for the victim.
