Bengaluru: As the Congress-JD(S) coalition government gears up to face the crucial vote of confidence in the Legislative Assembly, confusion and uncertainty looms over the future of the state government. As a precautionary measure, Section 144 has been enforced in the areas surrounding the Vidhana Soudha.
The Supreme Court had, on Wednesday, ruled that the rebel MLAs could not be forced to appear for the floor test.
If the 16 legislators’ resignations are accepted by Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar, the coalition government’s numbers will drop down to 101 as opposed to the BJP’s number which stands at 107.
So far, only Congress MLA Ramalinga Reddy has withdrawn his resignation and pledged his support to the coalition government. None of the other rebel MLAs are expected to show up for the floor test.
Speaking to reporters outside the Vidhana Soudha BJP state president and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa said that they are confident that they will win the floor test.
