Karnataka extends lockdown till June 30: Religious places, malls, hotels to open

Bengaluru: With Lockdown 4.0 ending on May 31, the Karnataka government has decided to kickstart a 30 day long Lockdown-5.0 from June 1 onwards.

However, a slew of further relaxations will be in place during this lockdown that will end on June 30.

State Home Department said that religious places and places of worship, hotels, restaurants and other hospitality services, shopping malls will be permitted to open from June 8, 2020, reported ANI.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Chief Secretary TM Vijaybhaskar held a meeting with top officials of the state on Sunday evening in this regard.

As per the decision of the state government, the curfew, which is now in force between 7pm to 7am, will be changed to 9 pm to 5 am.

The Centre has given a guideline to relax the lockdown in phased manner in all areas, barring the Containment Zones. The state has decided to follow the same guideline.

Sources said that educational institutions will remain shut as of now and a decision on opening centres of learning will be taken only after holding deliberations with the managements, parents and other stake holders. An official announcement in this regard has not been made yet.

Air travel, gym, sports services, Metro rails, theatres, parks, auditoriums, which will also remain shut as of now, may be opened in the third phase.

The government may also consider allowing social, cultural and religious gathering during the third phase and as of now, the state has decided to allow social gathering of only 50 people. A maximum of 20 persons can gather for last rites.

Karnataka reports 299 new COVID-19 cases from 5 pm of May 30 to 5 pm to May 31, taking the total number of positive cases to 3221. Death toll stands at 51 after 2 new deaths on Sunday.
