Bengaluru: In a first for Karnataka, faculty at government colleges now have the opportunity to get promoted. The decision to promote Associate Professors at Government First Grade Colleges to professor status was made by the higher Education Department. In the past, faculty would work there until they retired. Now, however, it was decided to promote over 274 Assistant professors to the position of professor.

“The Career Advancement Selection Committee’s decision to promote associate professors served as the basis for this decision. As many as 274 Associate Professors in the State will benefit from it,” said Higher Education Minister Dr. Ashwath Narayan.

He further said that it was 12 years after the last UGC decision the government decided to promote Associate Professors.
