Bengaluru: The Karnataka Government is planning to send all the migrant labourers who come to the KSRTC bus stands, back to their villages at the usual one way fare. The government plans to use about 100 buses for the purpose, however, each bus will run at half capacity to ensure that social distancing norms are maintained.
A decision in this regard was made on Saturday, May 2 during a video conference meeting held by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa with district ministers, MPs, MLAs and district collectors of selected districts. The meeting was conducted to review the current Covid-19 situation in the state, ANI reports.
Speaking to ANI, the Central Traffic Manager, Operations, KSRTC, Bengaluru said, “Today we are planning to operate around 100 buses depending upon migrant labourers coming to the bus station. Our bus passenger capacity is 55 but we operating with 30 passengers only after health checkups.”
A statement released by the Chief Minister’s office read, “In the meeting today, government has decided to take only one way fare from the migrant workers coming from outside and travelling by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation buses to reach their respective villages.”
According to a report by the Hindustan Times, a large number of migrant workers had gathered at the Majestic bus terminal in the city on Saturday. Just a day prior to this, CM Yediyurappa had allowed a one-time movement of stranded persons in the state back to their hometowns.
