A severe heatwave has gripped large parts of Karnataka, pushing April temperatures to some of the highest levels recorded this season. Northern districts have been hit hardest, while Bengaluru is also experiencing an unusually hot summer.

Bengaluru likely to get hotter

On Wednesday, Bengaluru recorded a maximum temperature of 35.8°C, slightly lower than Tuesday’s 36.6°C, which was the warmest day of 2026 so far.

Weather officials have indicated that temperatures in the city could rise further, with mercury possibly nearing 38°C in the coming days. Forecasts suggest daytime temperatures may remain between 36°C and 37°C for the next several days under mostly dry conditions.

Any thundershowers expected are likely to be brief and localised, offering only temporary relief.

North Karnataka scorches above 45°C

The situation is more severe in Kalaburagi district, where some places reportedly touched 44°C to 45°C. Awrad B recorded around 45°C, while Chincholi and Afzalpur crossed 44°C. Kalaburagi city itself registered above 42°C.

Officials have urged residents to avoid outdoor movement during peak afternoon hours and remain hydrated.
