Bengaluru: The National Environment Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) will be carrying out a scientific study of Bengaluru’s contaminated lakes. Over 210 water bodies existing within city limits have been identified and chosen for the study. The newly commissioned study is estimated to cost over Rs. 3.45 crores.
A division bench, headed by Chief Justice Abhay Shreenivas Oka ordered the Karnataka Government to approve NEERI’s study proposal on Monday, August 5. The Karnataka High Court’s order comes in the midst of several PIL hearings mainly involving the miserable state of Bengaluru’s water bodies.
Hearings related to this matter were further adjourned to August 14.
