Bengaluru: A dowry-related complaint of harassment and violence was filed by a Karnataka IPS officer against her husband on February 1.

The case was filed by Vartika Katiyar, Superintendent at the KSRP Research Centre against her husband, Niteen Subhash Yeola, Deputy Secretary in the MEA, on grounds of harassment for dowry. As per Vartika’s complaint, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the Cubbon Park Police Station on February 1.

In her complaint, she has alleged that she had to undergo years of physical, financial and emotional abuse from her husband and in-laws. After getting married to Niteen, she was constantly harassed for money. Following her marriage to Niteen in 2011, she was compelled to give away all her gold ornament despite her family paying for the wedding expenses. In the last few years, she also alleged that her in-laws have demanded lakhs of rupees from her family.

Just three months into the marriage, Niteen’s family began harassing her for 3 lakhs and threatened to break off the marriage if the demands were not met. The complaint further added that her parents gave in to the demands to prevent breaking-up of the marriage.
