Karnataka political crisis: Roshan Baig 15th MLA to resign

Bengaluru: Roshan Baig submitted his resignation from his post as Shivajinagar MLA on Tuesday, July 9, becoming the 15th MLA to resign. He has, however, clarified that he will remain loyal to the Congress party.

Speaking to reporters outside the Vidhana Soudha after visiting Speaker Ramesh Kumar, he said, “I have submitted my resignation from the Karnataka Assembly.” He added that unlike the other rebel MLAs, he would not be going to Mumbai or Goa or Delhi as he has to oversee arrangements for the Hajj pilgrims, being the chairman of the State Hajj committee.

It can be recalled that Baig was suspended from Congress for his alleged ‘anti-party’ activities on June 19.

He was also recently implicated in the IMA Group scam. IMA Group founder, Mohammad Mansoor Khan had accused Baig of taking Rs 400 crore from him and not returning it. Baig has, however, rejected the charge.

Meanwhile, as the political scene in Karnataka continues to worsen, Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and BK Hariprasad will be heading to Bengaluru today to take stock of the situation.
