Bengaluru: Karnataka has to its credit the fame of raising a first all-women Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) Company to handle situations of rioting and other disruptions efficiently. For the first time, women have been recruited in to the KSRP and all of these women have been armed with knowledge of martial arts. As of now 120 women have been recruited into the KSRP and are undergoing training. Karate, kusti, lathi-charge, rifle shooting, tear gas shelling, driving, working on wireless system, computer knowledge and usage of latest and advanced technologies available to them are some of the areas in which the ‘lady Singhams’ are being trained in.

There are 15 battalions of the KSRP in the state- with four located in cities and the rest placed n Mysuru, Hasan, Belagavi, Kalaburagi, Mangaluru and Shivamogga. Each battalion has 1200 personnel, making it over 15,000 men under the KSRP.
The newly recruited women will complete their training in November and further strengthen the KSRP. They will divided between Bengaluru and Belagavi battalions equally. The government has made it clear that more women will be recruited into the KSRP in the days to come.

It is believed that during the Mahadayi protests, the male policemen were forced to handle women protesters. Taking cue of lesson from here, the government decided to recruit women police personnel to handle such situations efficiently. But, with proper and rigorous training these women are capable on work under immense pressure and even capable of handling any nature of mob.
