In a major decision, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah declared that Bangalore City University will soon be known as Dr. Manmohan Singh Bengaluru University. The renaming aims to elevate it to a prestigious institution, with Government Arts College and Government RC College being integrated as constituent colleges.

🔹 Boosting Higher Education:
To enhance the quality of government colleges, the state will fill 2,000 vacant teaching positions across first-grade colleges and polytechnics. Additionally, industry experts will be recruited as Professors of Practice in 16 government engineering colleges, ensuring students gain hands-on expertise.

🔹 Infrastructure Push:
The government has earmarked Rs 275 crore to upgrade infrastructure in engineering polytechnics and degree colleges, ensuring modern facilities. A separate Rs 10 crore will be used to furnish recently established polytechnics and engineering institutions with essential equipment, computers, and books.

🔹 New University Expansion:
A constituent college under Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) is set to be developed in Chintamani, Chikkaballapur, at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore. Meanwhile, Mysore University will establish a Prof. Nanjundaswamy Research Chair, recognizing academic excellence.

With these reforms, Karnataka aims to redefine its higher education landscape, strengthening institutions while focusing on employability.
