Bengaluru: Karnataka is all set to create a record in February when it will start vaccinating 1.64 crore children aged between 9 months and 15 years for measles-rubella (MR). The record for immunisation will be achieved from February 7 to 28.
In the thre-week period early next year, every auxillary nurse midwife and government staff nurse in the state will be roped in to vaccinate children, irrespective of whether they have already been vaccinated for measles-rubella before or not. Children will be vaccinated at schools, anganwadis, construction sites and every other possible place.
As many as 9.11 lakh children are expected to be vaccinated every day, excluding the three Sundays in the three-week period from February 7 to 28. Initial estimates suggest each ANM or staff nurse has to vaccinate 876 kids over 18 days, or around 41 children per day. According to Principal Secretary to the health department, Shalini Rajneesh, this will be the largest immunisation campaign in the State till date.
