Karnataka tops ‘Investment intentions’ after toppling down Gujarat

Bengaluru: In good news for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s administration especially in terms of creating a friendly atmosphere for the business investment in the state the Data emerged from the central government gives a great showers of applaud.

Karnataka ranked as the top state in terms of ‘Investment intentions’ pushing down Gujarat, which held the position for long. The Central government’s data regarding the matter showed that Karnataka attracted more than double investment than Gujarat during January-June 2016.

Karnataka attracted whopping Rs.67,757 crore investment intention while Gujarat managed to worth only Rs. 21,309 crore, which is just one third of Karnataka, government data said.

The Centre, which is preparing to list the rank states on ‘ease of doing business’, and state wise break-up of investment intentions in terms of industrial Entrepreneur Memoranda filed for de-licensed sector and Direct Industrial Licenses granted.

Interestingly, the worth of investment intentions received by Karnataka in last six months in more than what Gujarat received in whole of last year. Last year, Gujarat topped the list with Rs. 64,733 crore worth investment intentions.

10 percent rise

Last year Gujarat got 20.81 percent of the total of India’s investment intentions worth Rs.3,11,031 crore. But, in 2016 Gujarat’s share declined to 12.06 percent whereas Karnataka’s share laddered from 10.18 percent in 2015 to 38.34 percent in first half of 2016 financial quarter.

The other states which ranked in top five positions after Karnataka and Gujarat are Maharashtra, Telangana and Chhattisgarh. Last year, Karnataka stood at fourth position after Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra. Odisha stood at fifth position after Karnataka.

Even in the latest ‘Business Reforms Action Plan’ index or measures taken by states to improve ease of doing business, Gujarat stood at sixth position last year too. Uttarakhand was ranked the top position.
