“Karnataka’s Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway: Open for Long Drives”
The Karnataka stretch of the ambitious 260-km Bengaluru-Chennai expressway is now complete and open for traffic, offering locals and travelers a smooth drive. The expressway, which will connect Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, is slated to be fully operational by August 2025.
The 71-km Karnataka portion, divided into three packages, features:
- Package 1: Hoskote to Malur (27.1 km)
- Package 2: Malur to Bangarpet (27.1 km)
- Package 3: Bangarpet to Bethamangala (17.5 km)
The road, designed for a top speed of 120 km/h, will drastically reduce travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai from over six hours to just three. For now, no toll is being collected as construction in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu continues.
An NHAI official shared, “Exit points at Malur, Bangarpet, and Bethamangala make the stretch convenient for locals and long-drive enthusiasts. Minor works are being wrapped up after relocating a temple at Jinnagera Cross near Hoskote, which had delayed progress.”
While locals use the expressway for commuting, others enjoy scenic long drives to the end of the stretch and back. Once fully operational, the expressway is expected to become a crucial link for interstate travel and trade.
