Bengaluru: The state government has decided to continue the lockdown till May 3, without any relaxation. The decision was made on Monday, April 20, in order to contain the spread of COVID-19.
It can be noted that Karnataka’s total confirmed cases rose to 395 on Monday, which includes 16 deaths and 111 discharges.
Speaking to the media after the Cabinet meeting, state law minister JC Madhuswamy that the “situation” will continue till May 3 and that the state government is waiting for new guidelines from the Central Government.
“We are waiting for fresh guidelines from the Centre and if any relaxations can be given. The Chief Minister and the task force will discuss in three to four days. For now, there will be no relaxations,” he said.
This development comes just two days after CM B S Yediyurappa had, on April 18, announced that some economic activities, especially construction work and industries, will be permitted after April 20.
Minister Madhuswamy added that there is no restriction on procurement, marketing and transportation as far as the agriculture and horticulture sectors are concerned.
According to the Minister, during the meeting, the Cabinet also decided to pressurize the Union Ministry of Commerce & Industry to export Karnataka’s spices and coffee. He explained that it was decided to raise the issue with the commerce department as all markets have closed.
