Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday announced that the state’s ‘Shakti’ scheme and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) have been certified by the London Book of World Records for two historic achievements.
Shakti scheme: Empowering women on the move
The Shakti scheme, which provides free bus rides for all women domiciled in Karnataka, has been recognised for the highest number of free bus rides availed by women globally. According to Siddaramaiah, the scheme has facilitated 564.10 crore journeys, promoting everyday mobility and women’s empowerment.
KSRTC: Most award-winning road transport corporation
The KSRTC has also earned a world record for being the most award-winning road transport corporation, having received 464 national and international honours since 1997.
Siddaramaiah posted on X, “Karnataka enters the global stage with two historic world records certified by the London Book of World Records. Our
governance vision is rooted in social justice, women’s empowerment, and world-class public service.”
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar hailed the recognition as “global recognition for Karnataka’s people-first governance!”

About the Shakti scheme
Introduced by the Congress government after coming to power in 2023, the Shakti scheme is one of five guarantee schemes ensuring free bus travel for women, reflecting the state government’s focus on inclusive policymaking and social welfare.
