Bengaluru: The treated water of Koramangala-Challaghatta (KC Valley) project, which is being released into the Lakshmisagara lake in Hosuru village of Kolar taluk in Kolar district has turned black. It has also led to foaming in the lake and the villagers are now worried.

The treated water from various STPs of Bengaluru city is released into the Lakshmisagara lake through this KC valley canal.

According to the locals, since Monday evening, black water is being released into the lake, which has led to a change in colour of lake water. Frothing too has started in the lake.

The locals allege that untreated, chemical mixed water is being released into the lake.

As the news spread, officials of the state pollution control board and minor irrigation department rushed to the village and collected water samples from the lake for lab tests.

KC Valley project is a controversial project implemented by previous Siddaramaiah-led Congress government. This project is in news since day one with Kolar residents opposing it citing that it may cause health disaster by polluting the water bodies including under groundwater.
