Bengaluru: The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has approached Malleshwaram police alleging data theft by a private firm.
Shilpa M, administrative officer, KEA, has lodged a complaint in this regard.
In her complaint, she alleged that a few private firms hacked the KEA website, collected the data of students and sold them.
According to the KEA sources, its website has the data of lakhs of students as for all the examinations and admission process, it invites application online. This data has been stolen after hacking the website.
It has been alleged that these firms sold the data to the private colleges for a hefty amount.
A big threat to privacy?
According to the sources, the website had the private details like Aadhaar and mobile numbers of lakhs of students from both Karnataka and other states as the KEA carries out medical, dental and engineering seat allotment. “We can get the details of the seriousness of this act only after an investigation,” explained an officers.
