Bengaluru: The state government has developed ‘Kempambudi Kere’, the popular lake of the city established by Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda in the 16th century. The funds for the project were raised under the Chief Minister’s Urban Development Fund and by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
In his inaugural address, BBMP Minister K J George said that Kempambudi lake, which was established for drinking water purpose has a rich history of many centuries. However, the lake was almost nearing death due to encroachments, sewage water, and wastage.
“The tank has been renovated,” he said.
In an indirect attack on BJP leaders, he said that those who looted the city are now in a fight to save the city in the name of ‘Bengaluru Rakshisi’. “The Congress party doesn’t need a gimmick in the name of ‘Kere Habba’,” he reacted to the ‘gimmick’ allegation.
