Bengaluru: The Metro route to the Kempegowda International Airport will be finalised this week when Civil Aviation Minister Jayanth Sinha visits the city on Friday, according to Minister for Bengaluru Development and Town Planning K J George.
The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had earlier listed nine route options to the airport and sought public feedback on the same. “On Friday, we will discuss the alternatives with the Union minister and select one,” Minister George said.
Signal free Silk Board Junction
If all goes well as per the plan, the notorious Silk Board junction, one of the city’s most congested traffic spots, will become almost free of signals in the coming years. “Both K.R. Puram and Silk Board junctions are bottlenecks. BMRCL is working with other civic agencies to end this problem. Around Rs. 900 crore will be spent at Silk Board junction for an elevated road above which the Metro line will be built,” said Minister George.
The KR Puram and Silk Board stations will be part of the Outer Ring Road line. They will be interchange stations. “The ORR line is in the design phase. We will place it before the State government for approval within a month. It will take 36 months for completion,” Pradeep Singh Kharola, managing director, BMRCL, said.
