Bengaluru: The tenure of Sa Ra Govindu, President of Karnataka Film Chamber Of Commerce has been extended by a year. A decision in this regard was taken in an all-member meeting held on Friday. Interestingly, his tenure has been extended amid opposition from a section of members.

According to the members who attended the meeting, around 250 members led by MLA and producer Munirathna and Rockline Venkatesh moved the proposal to extend the term of Govindu stating his service is required to implement the GST provisions in the film industry. Both these members argued that to get a favourable decision on lower GST, an influential leader is required.

But according to the sources, former chairman Basanth Kumar Patil, ex-secretary Bhama Harish and others opposed the extension of his tenure stating it is against the bylaws of the chamber.

They warned of a legal battle in this regard.
