Bengaluru: The second terminal, which is under construction near Kempegowda International Airport is going to be a lavish green feast for eyes.
The terminal work, which is being carried out in two phases will enaure that the terminal is spacious and close to nature.
In first phase, a building with an area of 2.54 lakh square metre and in the second phase, a building with 4.41 lakh square metre construction area will be built. Keeping up with the ‘Garden city’ identity of Bengaluru, prominence is being given to greenery.
According to the draft, the building which will be constructed in the first phase can manage 2.50 crore passengers in a year and second building can manage around 4.5 crore passengers. There will be enough space in the entrance (check-in) counters. There is an intention to construct 213 counters near the exit area. In the first phase, 90 counters will be built and 123 counters in the second phase. This area will contain 97 immigration counters and 62 lanes for passengers.
There will be 173 immigration counters at the arrival area, of which 113 counters will be built in the second phase. There will be 23 lanes to check passenger handbags and 25 belts to carry handbags. The second terminal would manage both international and domestic passengers.
Terminals are designed to use more natural light, decreasing the dependency on artificial light sources. It is designed to collect and reuse water as much as possible. The design stresses on less dependency on air conditioning system. According to the expectations, after the completion of the project, the number of users will increase to 6.5 crore. In 2017, the KIA was used by 2.5 crore passengers.
