Bengaluru: Balakrishna Jarakiholi, Chairman of the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), has written to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, appealing to increase the price of milk by Rs. 3 per litre.
The price of milk processing has increased by 30 per cent. The letter stated that there is a need to increase the price of milk to help farmers.
Jarakiholi further stated that several milk cooperatives, notably Amul, have raised their milk prices. Other cooperative societies’ milk costs about Rs. 8 to10 more than Nandini milk. Other cooperative societies’ milk costs about Rs. 8 to Rs. 10 more than Nandini milk. Farmers will receive Rs. 2 and the cooperative society will receive Rs. 1 if the Nandini milk price is hiked by Rs. 3.
He also mentioned in the letter that there are 14 milk cooperative societies in the State, with a combined turnover of Rs. 16,440.74 Crore in 2019-20, up 20 per cent from Rs. 19,732 Crore the previous year. Next year, we are expecting a 25 per cent increase,” he added.
