According to eyewitnesses, chaos started when a group of women met him seeking action against the lake encroachment in their village. These women belong to various self-help groups and the farmers association.
When the minister didn’t provide them with any assurances, the women started an argument. At that time, the minister addressed them as “rascals”, sparking outrage.
The women folk who were upset by the minister’s unparliamentary language continued arguing with him, and demanded an explanation for why he called them “rascals”. When the matter did not subside, the police intervened and dispersed the mob.
