The Koramangala police have arrested a man wanted in a drug-related case and recovered 48 stolen mobile phones worth ₹16 lakh from his possession.
The suspect, identified as Tousif, was apprehended on July 26 at Gorigepalya. He had been absconding since earlier this month, when police booked him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
On July 3, police had raided a hotel in Koramangala, arresting four people and seizing 12.62 grams of MDMA. While the others were taken into custody, Tousif managed to escape at the time. After weeks of tracking, investigators traced him and brought him in.
During interrogation, Tousif confessed to his involvement in drug peddling. He also admitted that the 48 mobile phones in his possession were stolen, though he claimed to have received them from other individuals. Police are now probing the network to identify his associates and determine how the stolen phones were circulated.
The recovered devices are being verified, and efforts are underway to trace their rightful owners. Authorities have urged citizens who lost phones in recent months to approach the station with proof of ownership.
Tousif has since been produced before court and remanded to judicial custody. Police officials confirmed that further investigation is in progress to uncover both the narcotics links and the stolen property racket.
