Bengaluru: Congress general secretary and Karnataka in-charge Digvijay Singh on Tuesday said there is no vacancy for Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president post.

Speaking with media persons, Digvijay Singh said Dr G Parmaeshwar, who is holding KPCC president post and Home Minister portfolio, has been working well. “There is neither vacancy for the post of KPCC president nor is the necessity to contest to the post of KPCC president,’’ Digvijay Singh said.

He has advised Congress leaders not to discuss Congress party issues, especially on KPCC president issue, in public. “I want Congress leaders not to discuss these issues in public. The Congress high command will take the right decision at the right time. As of now, there is no vacancy for the post of KPCC president,’’ he said.

The Congress general secretary has said that Lingayats have been supporting Congress in Karnataka and the recent bye-elections have proved it. “B S Yeddyurappa has been telling that Lingayats are with BJP. The recent bye-elections results have proved him wrong because large number of Lingayats are in Nanjangud and Gundlupet who elected Congress candidates,’’ he said.

On Cabinet expansion

The AICC general secretary has said the filling up of vacancies in the State Cabinet is left to the discretion of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. “There are two vacancies in the Cabinet and three vacancies in the Legislative Council. Siddaramaiah will take a decision on filling up vacancies in the State Cabinet. Candidates will be selected to fill up three vacancies in the Legislative Council shortly,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, former chief minister M Veerappa Moily has opined that the need of the hour is selecting a right person for the post of KPCC president. “Congress high command has to take the decision keeping the next Assembly elections and parliamentary elections that are scheduled to be held in 2019 in mind. Since Dr G Parameshwar is holding two posts – KPCC president and Home Minister – it will be difficult for him to focus on State Assembly elections to be held in April 2018,’’ Moily said.

He said the KPCC committee was constituted six years ago and it needs to be reconstituted to have better results in the next Assembly elections.
