Bengaluru: With 2018 assembly polls round the corner, the Congress high command has reportedly conveyed the need to induct new dynamism into the party ranks which has begun massive lobbying for the KPCC chief’s post.

The lobbying assumes significance since the person who leads the party for the polls is seen as a frontrunner to stake claim for the Chief Minister’s post if the party is voted to power.

G Parameshwara, K H Muniyappa, both Dalit leaders and Vokkaliga strongman D K Shivakumar are among the possible contenders for the post.

The issue of revamping the party from block to state level came up for discussion at the recent KPCC co-ordination committee meeting where it was decided to take up the issue at a two-day KPCC conclave to be held after the forthcoming Budget session of the state legislature.

However playing the Dalit card, loyalists of G Parameshwara have voiced a strong support to the leader citing his clean image and have demanded that he be allowed to continue as KPCC president till 2018 Assembly polls.

Party MLAs, K N Rajanna and Rafiq Ahmad, Tumakuru MP Mudduhanumegowda and former legislator Venkataramanappa said in a joint press conference that the party should face the next assembly elections under the leadership of Parameshwara and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who they opined were working in perfect coordination and hence the same should not be disturbed.

A delegation of state party leaders will soon meet the high command in Delhi and urge it to allow Parameshwara to continue as the KPCC president, Rajanna said.
