KPJP likely to expel Upendra

Bengaluru: It seems like all is not well within the recently formed Karnataka Pragnyavantha Janatha Party (KPJP). Reports have confirmed that there is dissent among the party members over selection of candidates for the forthcoming elections.

According to sources, the KPJP core committee may expel Upendra from the party at the meeting called on the evening of March 5.

Reportedly, KPJP Founder Mahesh Gowda and the party members are uneasy over the authoritarian working style of Kannada movie star and the party president Upendra. Moreover, Mahesh Gowda alleged that Upendra has sidelined him from party programmes.

Upendra had proposed an elaborate procedure for selection of candidates in December 2017. Reportedly, every candidate was made to record and upload a video of their visit to the constituency and their interaction with locals. Many had said that the procedure was cinematic and impractical. Their predictions seem to have come true with the latest developments within KPJP.

Final decision is tomorrow

Meanwhile, at a press meet, Upendra said that he would announce his final decision on the matter on March 6.

Not divulging much about the issue, he said that the founder of KPJP had approached him for an alliance. Everything was going smoothly until the issue of selection of candidates started. He was unsure as to why these differences had cropped up, he added.
