KSR Bengaluru Railway Station to Get ₹1,500-Crore Airport-Style Facelift
KSR Bengaluru City Railway Station is set for a massive ₹1,500-crore transformation aimed at matching the facilities and aesthetic appeal of Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). The redevelopment project aspires to create a world-class transport hub with state-of-the-art amenities.
Union Minister of State for Railways, V Somanna, shared details about the project during an announcement. He revealed that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) had been submitted to the Railway Board for approval. Spanning a 160-acre area, the station’s redesign promises an enhanced passenger experience akin to what one expects at an international airport.
“The redevelopment will not only elevate the commuting experience but also create numerous employment opportunities for local residents,” Somanna stated. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supporting such infrastructure advancements, which are pivotal for the nation’s growth. Discussions with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw are underway to finalize plans, with the project’s official launch expected soon.
Inspired by the globally recognized KIA Terminal 2, which was honored with UNESCO’s Prix Versailles Special Prize for Interior in 2023, the KSR station’s upgrade signifies a bold step towards modernizing urban mobility in Bengaluru.
This move is part of broader efforts to align India’s railway infrastructure with global standards, ensuring efficiency and comfort for millions of passengers annually.
