Bengaluru: In a ghastly incident, a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) driver has reportedly admitted to dragging a middle-aged man’s body for over 70 kilometers after the corpse got stuck under the undercarriage of a sleeper bus.

Initially, the 45-year-old bus driver named Mohinuddin had expressed ignorance over the incident stating “he did not realise that the body was stuck to his bus.”

Later, during interrogation, he admitted to hitting a middle aged man in the stretch between Channapatna and Ramanagar town en route to Bengaluru from Coonoor in Tamil Nadu.

He had reportedly informed the police earlier that, when he was around 70 kilometres from Bengaluru, he heard a thud, but thought the bus had hit a rock. He stated that since he did not notice anything in the rear-view mirrors, he continued to drive.

Mohinuddin, who has 10 years of experience and has an accident-free record admitted to the offence committed, later. “I took the bus inside the depot in Shantinagar after all passengers alighted and shifted the mutilated body and managed to place it between two other buses. This was done to hide the evidence of offence fearing police, before leaving the depot in the wee hours of the morning on February 4”, admitted Mohinuddin during interrogation.

“The driver is not clear about the accident spot and the case will be transferred to jurisdictional police station once there is clarity on the issue”, said the Wilson Garden Police, handling the case

The deceased has not been identified yet but is believed to be aged around 30 to 40 years old. The body was sent to Victoria Hospital for post mortem and later, the driver booked under Section 304 A (causing death due to negligence) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of the Indian Penal Code.

He has been further remanded to 3 days police custody.
