Bengaluru: The State government’s attempt to normalise public transport system by deploying trainees to run buses failed miserably within hours as agitators started indulging in violence on Tuesday evening, July 26.
Soon after the trainees took over the buses to ply, furious agitators turned violent and started assaulting the drivers and conductors. Many trainees sustained serious injuries due to which they refrained from duty immediately, thus making the government’s efforts a flop show.
Cases have been registered against those involved in violence like thrashing and abusing.
The attack on the helpless drivers was widely condemned across the party line and the CM was criticized for not handling the issue sensibly.
Meanwhile, CM Siddaramaiah has cancelled his Delhi visit, scheduled on Wednesday and has convened a high end officials’ meeting to discuss the matter.
The possibility of imposing Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) is more certain now, just as many in the phalanx of CM’s camp had predicted earlier.
Holiday extended
Holiday for schools and colleges were extended to Wednesday also.
