Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) has announced good news for women travellers by introducing ‘Pink’ taxis at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bangalore.
The recent atrocities against women by taxi drivers have instilled a sense of fear among women about travelling by taxis. The ‘pink’ taxis will now give more confidence to women.
KSTDC is planning to begin the new taxi service with 10 female drivers. The taxi service will begin on January 7 at 9.15 AM.
Tourism minister SR Mahesh told reporters that most women travelling to and from the airport are afraid to take taxis as the drivers are men. This is due to recent events of harassment by taxi drivers. Now the KSTDC will run ‘pink’ taxis exclusively for women in which they can travel safely without any fear.
According to sources of the KSTDC, the bumpers of these taxis are pink in colour and are easily identifiable. It is also fitted with GPS, MDT and Panic Button. There is a 24-hour monitor system on the taxis.
The taxi booking can be done using the KSTDC app or call 080-44664466. Travel rate Rs.21.5 per km from 6 in the morning to 12 in the night and Rs,23.5 per km from 12 in the night to 6 in the morning.
The KSTDC is training 10 women in driving and self-defence. They will be managing the taxi service in 2 shifts and the taxi service will be available for 24 hours.
