K’taka bans gifts at govt events, only Kannada books to be given

Bengaluru: Only Kannada books, and not flowers, shawls, and, memorabilia can now be presented as gifts at state government events.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai ordered that people meeting him, and in government events across the state, should give Kannada books. 

Chief Secretary P Ravi Kumar issued a circular on this following an order by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

A similar announcement was made by V Sunil Kumar, the minister for Energy, Kannada and Culture, on Monday, who had requested supporters who came to congratulate him not to bring flowers or other items, but to present books instead. Following the request, Sunil Kumar has received more than a thousand Kannada books, which he is planning to give to a public library in his constituency.
