Bengaluru: On Monday October 18, the Karnataka Congress has deleted a tweet that referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “angootha-chhaap” or illiterate, and expressed apologies for “uncivil tweet” written by a “novice social media manager.”
Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Chief D. K. Shivakumar withdrew the controversial post last night, admitting that it did not meet standards of “civil and parliamentary language” in political discourse.
I have always believed that civil and parliamentary language is a non-negotiable pre-requisite for political discourse. An uncivil tweet made by a novice social media manager through the Karnataka Congress official Twitter handle is regretted and stands withdrawn.

It can be recalled that the Karnataka Congress’ statement comes as bypolls for two State Assembly seats, Sindagi and Hanagal are set to be held on October 30.
