Bengaluru: Soon, multi-storey buildings, apartments, residences, and commercial businesses will be able to receive new electricity connections without having to submit Occupancy Certificates (OC).

All ESCOMS in Karnataka presently requires consumers to submit an OC to obtain new electricity connections. Consumers, on the other hand, were inconvenienced by this rule.

This has been a long-standing desire from both the real estate and industrial sectors. Several petitions to change the rule have been made to the Energy Department for many years. The Energy Department submitted a request to the KERC to change the rules in March of this year.

The KERC had asked the public to submit their opinion on amending the OC requirement by May 30. The commission will hold a meeting to review the submissions and will make an order to that effect as soon as possible.

Energy Minister Sunil Kumar V. said that the process of amending the rule is nearing completion and that it will be notified in another 15 days.
